Argentine steak house in the heart of Tenerife

Travelers-edition #1

Quebracho As Ador Argentino

“If it’s your first time here, follow the stars” – stands on the menu of an Argentine Steak House in the capital city of Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The restaurant is about a 5 minute walk from the Square Weyler, but you can always use Google Maps to get there.

The place is esthetically very pleasing with plenty of seating options and people can sit both inside or outside. The tables are big enough, so you don’t have to scoot together to enjoy your meal. Even outside in the street the tables and chairs did not wobble around, so it was a quite comfortable experience.

Our waiters were nice and helpful, and they even suggested what to try out for the main course, however they did not use a notebook for the orders, which can cause some stress, when you need to order the same thing twice…

The menu was Spanish, but also available digitally in english with a QR code taking us to a dropbox link.

And now let’s get down to the juicy staff and take a look at the orders. For starters the tomato salad with burrata is recommended 10000%. It is freshly cut tomatoes with green seasoning, some olive, olive oil and a big boy piece of burrata cheese on top of them.

However if the cheese with tomato doesn’t sound as good and you would like to try something different, we suggest to give a shot to the empanadas. These come in two different versions. One is seasoned beef wrapped in some pastry and the other is (a more animal friendly choice) onions and cheese instead of the beef. (We only have photos of the tomato salad sorrrry)

But now it’s time and let’s take a look at what we ordered for the main course. Our lovely waiter suggested to try out their 300g ribeye steak, which came on a black hot plate and meant we could cook the meat to our own likings. I have to admit I am quite fond of this and wish other places did the same more often. The steak came with their homemade french fries and some vegetables on the side. The meat was rich in flavour and the seasoning was spot on, it was quite rare however, but hey, I could cook my own the hot plate, which was 100x more fun. The fries were nothing special, good green seasoning, good side dish.

So main course is done, you had a great steak and wondering whether you have room left over for dessert. Well let me save you the stress and say: YES YOU HAVE!. The cheesecake with some caramel syrup on top was a clear winner from what we have tried. It was firm enough like a cheesecake, but not so much that you cannot get out your seat after you finished it. Would come back here just for the cheesecake alone.

We have also tried the lava cake, which had the same caramel coating on top and it was alright, like a lava cake. Tasty, hot melted chocolate on the inside, if you love a good brownie you’ll love this. You cannot go wrong with either choices on the menu.

Overall conclusion:

Very nice place, with a comfortable walk from the city centre. The waiters were nice and helpful, however the lack of notebook bothers me. The food and serving was excellent other than that. All in all I would 100% revisit the place, if I am craving a good Argentinian steak, with a good dessert after.

Quick tip: Restaurants and shops can be a little bit free-spirited in Tenerife regarding the opening hours. They can be open for the day, close for the afternoon and reopen in the evening. It’s nothing dramatic, but something to keep in mind, during your travels.
